2/8“Four steel columns had to be removed in order to convert a warren of small rooms into the open, spacious aerie the dramatic penthouse location demanded,” says Clodagh. “The living room’s new metal-framed French windows complement the landmark originals.”

5/8Four brick-and-iron-accented terraces, complete with lush plantings, afford Redford spectacular panoramas of Central Park and the city. “We plan to install a fountain on one of them, because the sound of water is essential to serenity,” says Clodagh.
6/8Clodagh used a variety of woods throughout the apartment; wideboard quartersawn oak floors unify the spaces. A low ceiling of slatted pine adds to the rusticity of the breakfast area. “I have no patience for cooking,” admits Redford, “but I’m a great eater.”
