If you’ve ever seen an episode of The Kardashians on Hulu, done a deep dive on Kim Kardashian’s Instagram, or if you’ve glimpsed AD’s 2020 tour of her Axel Vervoodt–designed home, you know that the businesswoman and entertainment personality has a thing for monochrome, particularly of the greige variety. The neutral color has invaded much of Kardashian’s world, from the shared office of her brands Skims and Skkn by Kim to the products themselves, the most devout being her nine stone-toned Skkn by Kim products that feature no distracting informational labels or in-your-face branding.

Less than four months after the launch of the aforementioned skin-care products, Kardashian is set to release yet another collection perfect for her fellow greige disciples: bathroom accessories. The line includes five concrete products—a vanity tray, a round container, a canister, a tissue box, and a waste basket—that will fit right in alongside a collection of Skkn by Kim skin-care products. Although her meticulous minimalist living space may not be accomplishable for most, these designs offer the ability to create a similarly calm and clean space at home. Some may associate luxury with frilliness and ornamentation, but as Kardashian continues to prove, it’s just as much about dependability and tranquility.

Below we discuss the influence her home has on her work, what makes concrete so alluring, and the process of developing her new home accessories, which will be available for purchase on October 6 at 9AM PST / 12PM EST directly from Skkn by Kim

Architectural Digest: I love the consistency between your home design, the Skkn product design, and now these Skkn home accessories. What attracts you to concrete?

Kim Kardashian: Thank you! I love concrete and gray tones, it feels really zen to me. When I was designing the packaging for my Skkn by Kim skin-care line, I wanted the packaging to look really good in my own home. All my inspiration was concrete sculpture and varying shades of stone. For these new home accessories, I wanted to make sure they really complemented the skin-care line, and were designed to display my products and elevate any home with modern, minimalistic elegance.

What do you think makes the material suitable for wellness?

I think having the concrete material and monochromatic design are important for my mental wellness. I find that there is so much chaos out in the world that when I come home, the minimalist design creates a sense of quiet and calm. That’s why when I designed the Skkn by Kim home accessories collection, I wanted each piece to be artfully crafted from hand-poured concrete—every item has its own unique texture and stone effect with an ornate patina occurring over time, so no two pieces are exactly the same. Even when I designed the skin-care packaging, I had all the products made up in real stone, and then we mimicked that vision when creating the final versions, and I still keep those stone mockups in my office.

The product line includes a vanity tray, a round container, a canister, a tissue box, and a waste basket. The full set costs $355.

You’ve lived in your iconic Axel Vervoodt–designed home for a couple of years now. How has your relationship changed with minimalism, or even your home specifically, in that time?

Minimalism is still very important to me, especially in my home. I’ve let my kids decorate their own rooms—they can go wild with whatever colors they want—but in the main part of the house, I really like the calmness minimalism brings. I really wanted to replicate that mindset in this collection. When designing the home accessory pieces, I wanted to marry art and functionality, and be able to reimagine any space into a serene oasis. I especially love how the Round Container and the Canister are perfect for storing cotton pads, Q-tips, or for any trinkets on countertops or around the home to keep it clutter-free.

What has been the most exciting part of developing these products?

The most exciting part has been being able to take the calming aesthetic and monochromatic interior design elements from my home and bring it to others through these pieces! I’m also so excited to share the Vanity Tray with everyone—it is the perfect, neutral base to display the Skkn by Kim skin-care collection, and together everything just looks so chic and gorgeous.
